Path to the Moon

On a clear night in early March, I stood on top of a cottage deck that overlooked the rest of the Crystal Cove cottages along the seashore.  To paint this nocturne I knew I had to mix the darkest values of cool colors.  Then on the opposite side, the lights were the brightest warmest colors and values.  In a matter of two hours I built up the composition on the linen panel and blocked it all in.  Then the moon rose above the bluff, I took pictures and quit, it was freezing cold.  Later in my art studio at home I added the moon and that changed it, so I had to adjust the values of everything.  A few days later I was satisfied with this night scene of Crystal Cove.  It literally made my giddy to be able to be there and paint this evening view.
